PH.D PROGRAM'S CURRICULAR STRUCTUR
Graduates of the Professional Ph.D. Program in Planning and Public Policies (Doutorado Profissional em Planejamento e Políticas Públicas [DPPPP]) must prioritize interdisciplinarity. These professionals who hold a Ph.D. in Public Policy must know how to collect information from people and documents and address them analytically, using creative capability to design new public policy options appropriate to the context, taking on the role of advisors to managers, providing strategic information for decision-making, helping governments and citizens to map and highlight arguments for and against public policy alternatives, creating spaces for debate for various social groups, and facilitating participatory processes.

The course will be taught in the evening, from Monday to Friday and in alternating weeks. All subjects will be divided into classes taught in 4 or 2 weeks, with a workload equivalent to 04 and 02 credits, and the international seminars in one week, with a workload equivalent to 01 credit. The weeks without classes will be used to study the content covered in the subjects and other activities, such as seminars and conferences. The first and second years of the course will be focused mainly on participation in the subjects taught, and the second year will be focused on writing the thesis or an institutional assessment of projects or programs of state scope.
The course will last 4 years. Its workload will be 65 credits – 975 hours (01 credit = 15 hours); the thesis or final paper is worth 40 credits; the basic subjects are worth 16 credits (mandatory); thematic seminars are worth 02 credits; elective subjects are worth 04 credits; international seminars are worth 01 credit; and the teaching internship is worth 02 credits. Upon completing the subjects, teachers must go through a qualification process for their thesis or evaluation project.
If students do not have teaching experience in accordance with the rules of procedure, they will have to complete a teaching internship equivalent to 02 credits. The internship may include subjects from the Professional MA Program in Planning and Public Policy (Mestrado Profissional em Planejamento e Políticas Públicas [MPPPP]), accompanied by the supervising professor. The program will also use lectures, conferences, and workshops on methodology, statistics, and scientific writing as a complement to the training process. The number of vacancies is 20 students per group.
